Maine Moose [Alces alces]

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife estimate the Maine Moose population between 60 to 70,000. The life span of a moose can be 15 – 25 years. Male Moose can weigh up to 1200 to 1500 pounds; while females can in excess of 900 pounds. When moose are born they weigh approximately 35 pounds and will weigh between 300 and 400 pounds before winter. The average body length is approximately 8 feet and adult moose average 6-7 feet at the shoulder.

Moose are even toed herbivores and the largest of the deer family. Moose are browsers and eat mostly aquatic plant when available. They do eat lichen and other plants that grow on the forest floor. Moose are active throughout the day; however they are crepuscular or more active at dawn and dusk. They are excellent swimmers and can run up to 35 m.p.h.

Having a guide to scout prime moose habitat ahead of time can save the hunter a lot of time and effort. Also experience with calling can greatly increase your odds of taking that bull of your dreams. *Do your own moose hunt - $500.00 per person, non-hunting guests $750 each (you'll be given locations of moose sightings).
*50% deposit to hold your spot.  Remainder due within 60 days of the hunt.
